Extension/new building: Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport Solar heating and condensing boiler take care of hot water Established worldwide and still growing: Holiday Inn is the best known chain of hotels in the Inter- Continental Hotels Group (IHG). The Holiday Inn at Birmingham Airport, England, was generously enlarged in 2010, with the addition of a total of 103 very comfortable single and double rooms, conference rooms, relaxation zones and much more. Foremost in the planning of the heating were maximum convenience, the capability to utilise regenerative energy and the installation of modern, efficient technology. What was implemented was an innovative, envi- ronment-friendly solution: a combination of 28 SOLATRON R 2.5 flat collectors and four R600 gas condensing boilers with an output of 571 kW each for the hot water supply. The system is rounded off by four 900 l (double-spiral) and three 3,000 l (single-spiral) warm-water storage tanks with a total capacity of 12,600 litres. The installation work was carried out by the English company MHS (Hydro Mechanical Services Ltd.).
