Highly effective heat transfer The RENDAMAX 305 boilers are fully modulating, low-emission gas condensing boilers for new construction and renovation in the middle power range – with a standard efficiency factor of 107.5 %. The modulation permits long burner lifetimes with energy-saving operation. The boilers have convincingly efficient, high heat transmission, and simple, reliable operation through fully electronic controls. For more power, they can easily be arranged in cascades. ELCO provides two of the systems for the Tsinghua project: the photovoltaic system for solar electricity generation, and the gas condensing boiler for the warm water preparation. The total output of the photovoltaic plant, with 144 PV modules in all, is around 22 kWp. The condensing boiler system serves as a heat source in winter. The system works efficiently and reliably. The gas condensing boilers are operated with low pressure. Because of fire regulations, the boilers in the first basement storey below the main building are connected to a gas main with low pressure. Compared with buildings of the same size (with gas condensing boilers as their heat source) the Tsinghua project allows savings of up to 20 tonnes of CO2 emission and 20,000 kWh of energy a year. An intelligent concept for efficiency and sustainability The building has received the highest recognition from many quarters for its architectural realisation. Not only are natural gas, solar energy and other renewable energies used, but a number of energy-saving materials and asso- ciated technologies were also employed in the construction of the building. Thanks to its environmentally friendly en- ergy balance, the building was rated at the highest Chinese environmental protection class. The building was also pre- sented within the Shanghai EXPO as a very environmentally friendly reference project.
